The Greeley Chorale is putting a new twist on the group’s popular Pops & Pasta! fundraising event by introducing the community to its new Cabaret & Cabernet event.
Cabaret & Cabernet: An Evening of Song, Wind and Good Times! is set to take place at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at the University of Northern Colorado’s Campus Commons Performance Hall, 1051 22nd St. in Greeley.
“Cabaret & Cabernet pays homage to the nearly 30-year legacy established by Pops & Pasta,” explained Susan McKenzie, event chair. “We’re taking the highlights of the previous format and breathing new life into an already great event.”
The event will feature heavy hors d’oeuvres, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink options, a silent auction, a wine pull and new whiskey drawing during the pre-show reception.
At 7 p.m., attendees will make their way into the performance hall for a fun and entertaining cabaret style show from the chorale. The show will include solo performances as well as ensemble performances.
“The restructuring of the event and this wonderful new venue allow us to highlight our musicians in a highly professional atmosphere, on a real stage with professional sound and lighting capabilities, while still keeping the light, fun and accessible aspect of this event,” McKenzie added.
The Greeley Chorale was founded in 1964 as a 40-member community chorus under the direction of Dr. Howard Skinner. In 1970, the chorus joined forces with the Greeley Concerts Association as a sister group of the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra.

Over the years, the chorale has grown to an army of over 100 voices, earning a reputation as one of the best community chorus groups across the state.
The group has received invitations to perform the 1988 World Expo in Brisbane, Australia, the 1992 Vienna International Choral Festival and Montreux Jazz Festival as well as performed in several countries including China, Italy and Ireland.
The group is a staple performer at community celebrations and events like the annual tree lighting ceremony in downtown Greeley, UNC’s Concert Under the Stars and Cinco de Mayo celebrations.
The group was also instrumental in helping create the Greeley Children’s Chorale, which is in its 33rd season this year.
