It might only be the middle of February, but some parents are already scratching their heads over what to do with the kids over the summer.

Hoping to take that stress off of parents’ minds, Ed Gage, owner of Code Ninjas in Greeley, has partnered with a variety of organizations and businesses to bring the Summer Camp Showcase to the community.

“I just started making phone calls and sending emails to people to see if they’d want to do this, and ALLO Fiber asked how they could help, as well as Amy Mattox from the Boomer House,” Gage said. “I’m already getting emails, texts and phone calls from parents asking what we are doing for summer camps. They want to know. They are planning ahead because they don’t know what the climate is going to look like, or if things will have waiting lists, so they are preparing for anything.”

The event kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Greeley Game Night at Boomer House, 1024 8th St., with representatives from local camps and programs offering up details, deals and discounts for summer activities.

Sponsored by ALLO Fiber, the Boomer House and Code Ninjas, Flourish Music Academy, Girl Scouts of Colorado and Melina Be will be onsite along with other businesses and organizations.

“Everybody will have a little booth there to show off all of our stuff,” Gage added. “I’m going to bring a popcorn machine, so they can have popcorn while they walk around looking at stuff.”

Gage will also have information on spring break camps offered by Code Ninjas. He will also offer a discount on Code Ninjas’ summer camp programs for attendees that sign up on Saturday.

Attendees at the showcase can pick up a bingo card for a chance to win prizes such as gift certificates and complimentary admission to programs and offerings.

Spots on the card are a combination of participating organizations and businesses as well as photos of some of the artwork placed inside the Boomer House.

Gage hopes the Summer Camp Showcase will turn into an annual event, growing as more organizations and businesses jump in to participate.

“Moms and dads aren’t going to send their kids to 10 weeks of one camp. The Summer Camp Showcase will give parents a good balance between physical stuff and the mental stuff. Kids can do a little bit of each over the summer,” Gage said.
