Weld Central 9, Fort Lupton 6, in Keenesburg: Weld Central took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, then answered each of Fort Lupton’s rallies the rest of the way. Senior Alan Mazzotti, junior Easton Hoffman and sophomore Marcello Rossi each drove in a run for the Rebels. Freshman Lucas Johnson went 2 for 3 with a triple and three runs for Weld Central. The Rebels evened their early season record at 1-1. Fort Lupton fell to 0-2.

Resurrection Christian goes 1-1, in Arizona: Playing in the second day of the Best of the West tournament, Resurrection Christian defeated Verrado (Buckeye, Arizona) 10-7 before falling to Horizon (Scottsdale, Arizona) 14-0 in five innings. The Cougars scored nine runs in the first inning against Verrado. Sophomore Charley Wilson hit 3 for 4 with a RBI and a run. Wilson and fellow sophomore Bennett Ruby had the only two hits for Resurrection Christian against Horizon. The Cougars moved their record to 2-1.

Highland 16, Byers 1, 4 inn., in Byers: Highland got off to a strong start to its season with this lopsided nonleague affair. Already up 5-1, Highland put a stamp on the mercy rule win with five runs in the third and six more in the fourth.

Dayspring Christian 17, Lyons 7, 6 inn., in Greeley: Dayspring has 32 runs through two games, as it improved to 2-0 overall, 2-0 in Class 2A/1A Mile High League play. The Eagles did most of their damage in two innings, scoring five runs in the bottom of the second and 11 in the bottom of the sixth to activate the 10-run mercy rule. Sophomore Gage Davis led the way, hitting 4 for 5 with two doubles, two RBI and a run. Sophomore Sawyer Klein hit 2 for 3 with a run and a RBI.

Niwot 18, Greeley Central 1, 4 inn., in Greeley: Greeley Central struggled in its season opener, giving up multiple runs in each of the first three innings. David Martinez drove in the Wildcats’ only RBI. Luke Arguello had Central’s only hit.

Girls soccer

Pine Creek 4, Windsor 1, in Windsor: Windsor evened its record at 1-1 with this loss to the fourth-ranked team in 5A, according to CHSAANow.com. The Wizards are ranked second in 4A, behind defending state champion Northfield. Junior Airyanna Zabka scored Windsor’s sole goal in the first half. Junior Ella Moody had an assist on the goal. Juniors Ava Amsden and Aubriana Austin each had two goals for Pine Creek. The Eagles scored three goals in the first half.

Palmer Ridge 10, Roosevelt 0, in Johnstown: Roosevelt continues to search for its first win of the young season, falling to 0-3. Palmer Ridge scored nine goals in the first half. Nine different players scored for the Bears.

Eagle Ridge Academy 10, Weld Central 0, in Keenesburg: Weld Central struggled mightily against the 10th-ranked team in 3A, according to CHSAANow.com. Freshman goalkeeper Abigail Hamblin had 17 saves for the Rebels. Weld Central fell to 1-1 overall with the nonleague loss.

Girls tennis

Severance 6, Mead 1, in Severance: Severance opened its season with a quality nonleague win. The Silver Knights won all three singles matches and three of four doubles matches. The No. 3 doubles team of sophomores Tatiana Haro and Ella Sekerak and the No. 4 doubles tandem of freshman Myla Moore and junior Ryleigh Box each won in three sets.

Fort Lupton 5, Englewood 1, in Fort Lupton: Fort Lupton evened its dual record at 1-1 overall, 1-1 in 3A Region 5 play. The Bluedevils swept all three singles matches and won two of three doubles matches. Fort Lupton junior Payton Faulhaber was dominant at No. 1 singles, defeating Erin Altenhofen 6-1, 6-0.

Boys volleyball

Severance 3, Fort Lupton 1, in Fort Lupton: Severance won its first match of the season, prevailing by set scores of 25-17, 21-25, 25-19, 25-23. Senior Jesus Vasquez had 13 kills, 18 digs and five aces for Fort Lupton. The Silver Knights improved to 1-4 overall, 1-2 in Northern 1 play. The Bluedevils fell to 1-6, 0-2.
