University 18, Montrose 4, 5 inn., in Montrose: University opened its season empathically at Montrose’s home tournament. The Bulldogs erased an early 3-2 lead by outscoring the Red Hawks 16-1 in innings 2-4. Juniors Jacob Cruz and Coel Croissant each connected on two hits and drove in three runs. Fellow junior Kaleb Tejada went 4 for 5 with a RBI and three runs. Senior Riggs Towle was solid on the mound allowing one earned run on four hits, striking out eight and walking two.

Jefferson Academy 4, Fort Lupton 2, in Fort Lupton: Fort Lupton dropped a tightly contested nonleague affair to remain winless, 0-3. The Bluedevils scored their only two runs in the first inning but were shut out the rest of the way.

Boys volleyball

Windsor Charter 3, Peak to Peak 0, in Lafayette: Windsor Charter earned its second sweep of the season, 25-19, 25-22, 25-17. The Firebirds improved to 3-3 overall, 1-0 in Northern 2 play.
